“A Very Compelling Page-Turner”: Bay Area Reporter Reviews Randy Boyd’s The Unfrozen Few

Reviewer Laura Moreno calls the novel’s premise “a brilliant vehicle for Boyd’s profound musings.”

In a review for the Bay Area Reporter, Laura Moreno writes that Randy Boyd’s “return to novel-writing after 21 years is being met with great enthusiasm for good reason.” The Unfrozen Few, Book One: Welcome to the Future follows a group of AIDS patients who wake up in present-day America after being cryogenically frozen in the 1980s.

Moreno adds that Boyd “is a wonderful writer who is unafraid to tackle profound issues,” calling the book “a suspenseful read that is sure to keep your attention riveted.”

Founded in 1971, the Bay Area Reporter is the country’s oldest continuously published LGBTQ newspaper. It previously reviewed Boyd’s fourth novel, Walt Loves the Bearcat, in 2006, and featured an interview with him in 2018.

“I know how many books cross a publication’s desk, and I’m grateful the Bay Area Reporter took the time to give The Unfrozen Few such thoughtful consideration,” Boyd said. “And as an author trying to sell a few billion copies, I certainly won’t complain about all those great pull quotes.”
